Thoughts out loud - Loud Pipes Save Lives. First hand experience, too often.

 I often wonder if officialdom really knows what's going on in the real world when it reacts to the whinging of a loud minority.

Loud pipes on motorcycles are often considered beneficial for safety, making the rider more noticeable to surrounding vehicles. The increased noise can alert drivers in cars, trucks, or other vehicles to the presence of a motorcycle, especially in situations where they might not otherwise see it, like in a driver's blind spot or during lane changes. This heightened awareness can potentially reduce accidents, giving the rider an extra layer of protection by ensuring they are heard even if not immediately seen. For some riders, the added noise enhances their riding experience, creating a sense of power and freedom.

Personally, I have found this to be true.
